The Belarusian Institute for Strategic Studies announces a new call for the program of scholars support BISS Fellowship.
The program´s major goals are:
* To promote advanced research of the socio-economic and political processes taking place in Belarus;
* To contribute to the development of a new generation of experts and researchers focusing on the Belarusian agenda;
* To fill the gaps in knowledge and competences on the most important issues of political, economic, and social development in Belarus existing in the Belarusian analytical community.
Fellowship details:
The fellows, whose applications will be supported by the Board, will be offered an opportunity to work on their own research project
independently, receiving regular consultations by invited experts. This year the traditional scheme of the scholarship program BISS
Fellowship has been supplemented and upgraded with the BISS PhD Fellowship, aiming to support Belarusian researchers working on their doctoral thesis on Belarus-related issues at foreign universities.
The participants of the program will receive a monthly scholarship. The duration of the program BISS Fellowship is 6 months, BISS PhD Fellowship - 10 months.
BISS considers this program as a chance to expand the network of experts with whom a more durable and sustainable relationships can be established in the frame of various research projects.
In the course of the fellowship, BISS fellows will be involved in Belarus Public Policy Fund activities and other BISS research
projects and events, such as annual BISS conference, Belarusian yearbook, Agency of policy expertise, BISS Trends, etc.
The fellowship result will have to be presented in the form of analytical report, monograph or one or several policy papers ready
for publishing.
Besides, a BISS fellow is supposed:
* To hold one public presentation or discussion on the results of a research project at the end of the fellowship;
* To prepare at least one BISS Blitz publication every two months for the website of the Institute.
In the frame of a new round of the scholarship program the first-priority research fields are:
* Social changes and social processes in Belarus;
* Economic policy, liberalization, privatization;
* Human capital and education;
* Agricultural reforms.
Applicant requirements:
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
* Be a citizen or a permanent resident of Belarus;
* Be experienced in analytical, administrative, media or civil society activist work in one of the first-priority research fields;
* Have publications in Belarus and/or abroad.
BISS Fellowship
* Have a completed university degree;
BISS PhD Fellowship
* To work on a PhD thesis on Belarusian issues in one of the European or American universities. It's preferable that the fellow's thesis
lies in the frame of thematic priorities of the program.
There are no age or gender requirements to the applicants. BISS will not accept applications from undergraduate students.
The application in Russian or Belarusian should include:
* A CV in Belarusian/Russian AND English;
* A sample publication as an evidence of the professional competence acquired so far;
* A fellowship research proposal up to 10 pages structured in the following way:
o problem statement;
o literature review;
o hypotheses;
o methodology;
o expected outcomes.
* At least 2 references upon request (an applicant submits only contact information of the recommendors), the text of recommendation
is not required;
* A research project summary in English up to 2 pages.
