CuratorsArray

CuratorsArray is an ongoing series of video selections by invited curators utilizing and expanding SanctionedArray database, with exhibitions and screenings presented at museums and galleries around the world and online. The goal of this project is to explore and present video art from the origins where virtual video currents are or have been restricted. The scope of each installment of CuratorsArray is both encyclopaedic — as expressed in an open call for submissions issued for each iteration of CuratorsArray, as well as specified by each invited curator via his or her selections from the open call.

In 2010-2011, CuratorsArray will focus primarily on video art from OFAC-sanctioned countries — Belarus, Cote d'Ivoire, Congo, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Myanmar/Burma and Zimbabwe — as well as other countries where access to virtual transmissions is or has been restricted, such as Turkey and Pakistan.

The first iteration of CuratorsArray is Others2Specify, a playlist of 52 videos curated by SpecifyOthers from the first call for submissions to SanctionedArray. It was presented at Big Screen Project, New York City, on October 25th, 2010 and at WHITE BOX, New York City, on November 2nd and 3rd, 2010.
