The Heinrich Böll Foundation is pleased to announce the call for applications for its second „Summer School for Young People from Belarus” that will take place in Berlin from 4th to 18th of July, 2010.
The Heinrich Böll Foundation is a part of the Green political movement that has developed worldwide as a response to the traditional politics of socialism, liberalism, and conservatism. Its main tenets are ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice. The Heinrich Boell Foundation is a green think tank and an international policy network.
The Summer School provides 12 young people from Belarus with an opportunity to learn about current political and social developments in Germany and in Europe. The participants will gain insights into examples of local community initiative in different parts of Berlin. Environmental, social and cultural projects will be presented and reflected upon. Motivations of people to develop community projects, underlying attitudes toward the organisation of the local community and the role of the state for civic initiatives will be discussed. The programme aims at qualifying and empowering young Belarusians for their community work and at encouraging local initiative guided by the idea of participatory democracy.
If our topics are attractive for you, don’t hesitate to apply!
Eligible for application are residents of Belarus in the age of 19 - 28 with a profound knowledge of English (working language of the Summer School). The programme addresses young people interested in politics and local community initiative particularly (but not only) related to environmental concerns.
There is no programme fee. The Heinrich Böll Foundation covers visa and programme costs, as well as travel expenses, board and accommodation during the Summer School.
